2024 Optimist European Championship organized by Club Nautico Marina di Carrara with the Associazione Italiana Classse Optimist and IODA has finished, and we are sending our greatest congratulations to winners Iason Panagopoulos and Vita Erceg.
279 sailors from 46 nations were competing in a very challenging conditions during the whole championship with a light and very shifty wind combined with current.
Thanks for the trust and collaboration to all the athletes, clubs, coaches and parents choosing CD as their championship sail and a special compliments to our CD athletes in European TOP 10: Jesper Karlsen with CD Medium model, Cristian Castellan with the brand new CD DRS sail combined with new CD Mast (only one point behind the podium), Aleksandr Bolsunovskyi with CD Power, Artur Brighenti with CD Medium, Sara Anzellotti with CD Booster, Olha Lubianska and Ahnieshka Madonixh with CD Flat.
Jesper Karlsen, the new European Vice- Champion shares:
"I finished second and I'm very happy, even if I couldn't get the top spot by a point. It was a very difficult event. Today we did everything we had to do to win [...]".
We are also proud of the Italian team victory in the “Nation’s Cup” - all 13 Italian athletes qualified for the Gold Fleet with 9 athletes of Italian team having CD Sail as their choice.
Marcello Meringolo, Italian Optimist Class, Italian National coach ads: "In the men's category, the Greek won the championship with only one point ahead Jesper, while Castellan finished fourth. I am extremely happy with the results obtained by the team; the race course was not easy to interpret [...]. We closed with two silver medals and one bronze, with a fourth place for both Anzellotti and Castellan. We also win the Nation's Cup so let's say we go out with our heads held high. […]”
